2008 Season

It has been a good year. Loads of raspberies for pies, crumbles and jams. Potatoes were good and so are the carrots. We grew red cabbage for the first time this year and it was so delicious and sweet. Our son who pretty much enjoys any food did not like it. I think he was put off by the colour of it after it had been cooked, blue!

Courgettes have been good and we have enjoyed a couple of marrows. Nick made a lovely mushroom and cheese sauce filling for the marrow which really brought the flavour up.

Roll on next year for another bumper crop. Just a pity we cannot have animals on the land for our own home grown pork or chicken.

Successful year so far

Well the allotment has proved to be a huge success. We have had our failures, namely peas and probably the potato main crop. But we have had raspberries galore, broad beans, french beans and now the runner beans are coming. Onions were fantastic. Tomatoes starting to come. We have some of the biggest cucumbers I have ever seen. Still more to come. Looking forward to the blackberry season.

More broad beans, peas, tomatoes in the green house, lettuce, broccoli, Blueberry bush and raspberry canes.

First Harvest

Last Sunday saw the first harvest from the Allotment. Fresh red, sweet rhubarb. Absolutely gorgous in a rhubarb crumble. No need to add any sugar as sweet enough.

The rhubarb was left by the previous owner and we covered some of it over to force it so it grows lovely and pink giving it that delicious sweetness.

Dug over 90% of site.
Cleared lots of rubbish and glass frames that are potential hazards to our son.

Planned where everything is to go.
